Springet
På engelsk: the Leap (GB, USA)

Henning,
I loved The Leap. I found it deeply affecting (nothing to do with my
age or a sense of mortality, of course), and beautifully made. (How
do you get such gorgeous cinematography on what was perhaps not a
blockbuster budget?) I wouldn't know where to begin singling out
performances, since they're all superb, though I was particularly
enchanted by the childhood sequences, and the intimacy and
seductiveness -- for the boy and for us -- of those moments leading
up to the father discovering them. I wasn't prepared for the gothic
turn the plot took, with Ida in her wheelchair, and I thought the
moment of her rising from it was a bit perfunctory. I also had a few
misgivings about -- though at the same time enjoyed -- Tobias seeking
wisdom from his old teacher in the tavern scene. But these are minor
matters. It's a fine film, and you should be proud of it. Should I
mention to Tom Luddy that I've seen it and think he ought to see it,
or are you already in touch?
Fondly,
Joe

Dear Henning,
I hope that this email message eventually finds you somewhere on this planet.
I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed THE LEAP, which someone gave me -- I cannot recall who -- but it's an SF DVD -- and which is so beautifully written and acted.
It's the kind of story that contains many, many pitfalls, but you manage to avoid them all.
At the same time, the film celebrates the virtues of music and warm, human contact, that made us all love your work.
(.... some private lines .... )
So, congratulations again on a rich and moving work.
Give my love to Else
Best regards
Peter Cowie
